BurySport.net: Bury Cycle Speedway Club 06.04.08 Bury Cycle Speedway Club 06.04.08 ================================================================================ John Whiting on 06 April, 2008 09:07:04 Bury's second match of the season started equally badly, despite having 20 Juniors training each Thursday, none made it ti Astley and Bury had to forfeit the Division 2 match. 7 riders turned out for the Senior event, full credit to Mikey Hewittson for fighting the snow all the way from Edinburgh. With Ben Scranage making his 2008 debut, Bury had a lot to do against an Astley team containing 4 Polish Riders. In very cold conditions bury drew the first 2 races and then edged in front in the 3rd race Hewittson providing Bury's first winner. Both these teams know each other well, and furthe cagey racing followed till the home side took 6 points from race 6, and increased that with 7 in the seventh as machine failure hit Bury. A cracking race in the 8th, Scranage unlucky to slip on the final lap, but a drawn heat anyway. John Milandovic continued his good form with a fine 3rd in race 9, Asley leading Bury by 6 46-40 Points. The 10th and Bury hit back, Hewittson and Whiting scoting a fine 7 points followed a 5-4 in race 12 to reduce the deficit to 1 point. Despite the cold weather the racing was really hotting up as Bury believed they could sneak the points. Jarman and Whiting gave Bury a 3 point lead in the 14th. Astley werte not finished with the unlucky Doyle conceding 7 points in race 15. Scranage and Jarman with a great effort took the lead again, Howarth and Doyle scored an important 5 points in the 17th and maintained Bury's single point lead, 83-82. Hewittson needed to win to draw the match, and for 3 laps really did brilliantly, a slip on the 4th and Astley had the victory 88-86. A superb effort from all the bury riders, who really fought for every point, and just missed out against their close rivals. Astley provided 2 unbeaten riders in Remi Burchart and Yomas Wlodarcz, but Bury with everyone giving 110% just missed out. Bury Scorers. B. Scranage 15; N. Howarth 14: S. Jarman 11, M.
