Cycle Speedway, Northern GP 27.4.08 @ Stockport.
On a really miserable day, Stockport was the venue for the first round of the Northern Alliance GP series. Covering all age groups from U-10 to the Seniors and Vets, this always provides some excellent racing. Sunday however really turned out to be a miserable day and affected track conditions and the starts.
Liam Burke and Leo Brindley were early winners in the u-16 events, however Liam fell away in the lattter stages of the meeting. Leo Brindley after a fine 16 points on Wednesday struggled and although making the final 4, finished last, but gained valuable GP points.
The Seniors and Vets represented by Neil Howarth, Fred Rothwell and John Whiting had mixed fortunes in the qualifying events, Neil eventually scraping through to the Senior final with a final race win. Rothwell and Whiting struggling at the starts, but making the Vets final.
Neil had little luck in the Senior final, leaving from the unfavourable Gate3, he could make little impact on Tomaz Wlodarczt, Darren Kent and Remi Burchardt, finishing 4th.
After a slight rest, Kent went on to take the Vets final from Whiting and Rothwell after an always interesting race.
No match next week due to the European events at Leicester. But the club will be working on the track on Saturday, with training as usual on Thursday.
