BurySport.net: Heys second best in Royton defeat Heys second best in Royton defeat ================================================================================ Alan Michaelovitz on 05 January, 2008 01:35:00 HEYS 1, ROYTON TOWN 2 Manchester League Premier Division Manager Jason Dormer rung the changes following the below-par performance at Rochdale Sacred Heart the previous week. Martin Love, Damion Keegan, Mark Westhead and Mark Slater all made way as Scott McManus and Andy Roberts returned to the starting line-up. And taking advantage of no reserves fixture, Dormer opted to give the Jolly brothers, Brandon and Matthew, a start up-front. The visitors showed their intent straight from the off. Eliot Bernstein reacting to tip over a shot from the edge of the area in the seventh minute, with a header from the resulting corner flashing just wide of an upright. Town went on to take the lead mid-way through the half. Heys defender Marvin Walters could consider himself unlucky as his attempted clearance rebounded to a forward who went to the byline before pulling the ball back to a team mate for an easy tap-in. But only minutes later Heys pulled the scores back level from the spot following a hotly disputed handball in the area after a corner on the right. Jonathan Lyons held his nerve to convert for the equaliser. Bernstein was called in to action again to tip over another effort before Lyons went on a run on the stroke of half-time but pulled his shot just wide. Heys were enjoying enough of the ball after the restart but failed to make the most of some promising build-up play with the final ball sadly lacking in quality. So much so that the Royton ‘keeper didn’t have to make any real save of note for the rest of the contest. And they were made to pay the price in the 70th minute when a free-kick on the half-way line was sent long in to the box. Walters was again unlucky as his tackle on a Town forward resulted in the ball breaking to an unmarked team-mate who drilled home from two yards. Brandon Jolly and sub Martin Love both sent efforts wide as Heys looked to salvage a point but Town held out for a deserved victory.
